change is never easy

Not when you are adult and especially not when you are a two and a half year old.

This morning Little Man's drop off at daycare was a disaster, marked by  resistance and tears even before we head in.

Tears continued to roll in the minutes post, even as i sat there with him.
eventually, i would leave him crying in the arms of one of the teachers.

Today was so much more acute than the day before which was Little Man's 3rd day at daycare.

And unlike his first day - where there were all smiles, today it was filled with tears.

Again, I left him crying in the arms of the teacher, and the day didn't improve.

The rest of the morning were calls to and from the centre checking on his well being.

Eventually - Daddy would need to come to the rescue and an early mark be enforced for the day.

According to Daddy's SMS post pickup was that Little Man kept telling him that he loves Daddy very much.

On my return home from work, i found a very happy little boy waiting on the driveway to give me big hugs.

Despite the events of the day, he still confirmed that he wanted to go back to preschool.

Poor little monkey isn't adjusting well to this, what else could we try?

One thing definitely on the cards will be to  meet with the teacher to work out a transition plan for Little Man, to help him deal better with the situation.

  1. oh you poor thing that must be so terrible for you. It must be so overwhelming for your little one. Hopefully it won't be long till he settles down. It is a good sign that he want to go back though.

  2. It pull so hard on your heart strings. I had something similar and the staff come up with wonderful ideas - definately speak with the staff.

  3. That must be so hard for you, and for him! I don't have any advice because my experience was very different. Both my boys ran off to preschool, and then school, without so much as a backward glance! I kind of wish they had displayed a little bit of seperation anxiety... just to validate my worth! ;-)

All the best, one day at a time.

  4. It is sad when you have to leave them crying, I still on days have to do it with both Z and M. Though I know with them they stop after 5 minutes and join up with their friends. It may just take time for L to get used to it, though it is tough having to go through that process. :(

  5. Haha, a third cyber / gymbaroo fan! Although we aren't planning on continuing next term.

So sorry to hear that your Little Man is tearing up. It must be so hard. I'm sure you'll find a way through this....

  6. Oh, it's heart breaking when you leave them crying. What we do is talk about daycare a lot - the night before they go and on the weekend.
Talk about their friends and their teachers, using their names.
It's not going to be easy. And even when they've been there for a while and completely settled in, there will still be random days when they are teary and fragile.

  7. thanks for the input and reassurance. happy to report that the day improved dramatically, it was a long morning before hearing that he had stopped crying. We have a strategy in place for next week. So hopefully things will improve.
This morning he was pretending to go to preschool - i am guessing that this might be a good thing. Will definitely keep talking about daycare and getting him used to the whole concept.

  8. It sure can be hard, I have to just dump and dash with my 3rd baby, otherwise he gets very upset, my older 2 have always been fine, but I think I've been very lucky. Good luck, it does get easier x
