discovering my passion

Being unemployed is a funny state to be in, particularly as i have been working since i was 13 years old. Back in those days, the newspaper round brought in some good pocket money.

Now the reality of looking for a job is that it is going to take time, coupled with the lack of practice is an added disadvantage in the fact that i haven't had to really look for a job in over 10 years.

So the question that I face at this juncture is what do I really want to do?

Some of that advice I have been given aligns to that adage of work with your passion and you'll never work a day for the rest of your life.

Wise? Perhaps?

I have spent the last few weeks mulling over this question - what is my passion? I have been googling and reading articles and forums to work on this.
There are some really helpful resources out there to help me on this journey.

And if I find my passion - am i good enough at it to turn it into a source of income?

One thing I have discovered thus far, is that I am going to have to invest time in working this out.

Do you know what your passion is? How did you discover it? If you had nothing to lose, what would you throw your energy and time at?

  1. My passion is photography. But I have so much more to learn before I would consider making an income from it.

Perhaps try a few short courses of things that interest you to hopefully ignite a hidden talent/passion.

  2. I LOVE my footy....I would love to be doing something with that. Maybe the Parramatta Eels could do with someone to give massages after a game? That definitely wouldn't be work for me! :)

On a serious note, I am trying to find the same thing. I am not sure what exactly it is, but when I do work it out, I will be taking the bull by the horns and running with it. The Corporate world (even though the money is fantastic) is not all it is cracked up to be! :(

  3. I'm passionate about a lot of things. Trying to combine them all into the one big project would be lovely just don't know how to do it yet. Embrace this time, Steph! You'll find your passion, I'm sure! x

    1. Thanks Grace, some of the articles i've read have said that it's difficult to combine them all, one said focus on one first and then once that gets going add another. I am enjoying the opportunity to be more considered on what I want to invest my time in. We've got to have something to work towards don't we!

  4. My passion is photography, too, like Sophie. But man it is a tough gig and even tougher industry to break into without having the time, money and resources behind you. I don't really have any advice, but wish you the best of lucky finding something you love and following that dream. -Aroha

  5. Thanks Aroha. Starting something from scratch will definitely need a lot of time and energy like you described, so need to keep that in mind too!

  6. I so hear you! I've worked since I was 16, and only stopped when I became a mum. The idea of having to enter the workforce again is just frightening.
To follow my passion...think I'll have to be a chocolate taster :)

  7. My passion is writing, pure and simple. But I've recently started working in a liquor shop, and I kind of love it. Mostly because of the great people :)

  9. Hello there, I think I am very lucky in that reading and writing have been my passions since I was a child. And I remember getting a camera at 8 years old and lovingt hat too. I did adore working in TV and would love to do more video... but actually have realised that my job is my family for the moment... and I do get paid for that, or rather money appears in the bank account and I can spend it. So less writing these days, but the absolute joy in research and writing has never diminished.
