Five Minute Friday - FLY

Five Minute Friday today!

If you want to join in, here's how to play!

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link to www.lisajobaker.com and invite others to join in.
3. You need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
Five Minute Friday

Todays' word is FLY

It seems like just yesterday, we fed you spoonful by spoonful. Today, you make choices, picking up the tongs to serve yourself and even me.
"what would you like mummy?"
"some chips please"
"okay" comes the reply
and is closely followed up by action. The chips are picked up and placed onto the plate.

It's hard to imagine the little baby boy, so dependent once, now helps with the laundry, unpacking the dishwasher and even with washing the car.
You are growing up so quickly with a mind of your own, picking the books that you want to read, the things you want to watch. These days are filled moments of sweetness and moments of full independence displayed with defiance. Moments that tell us that you are learning to fly, and growing your own character.

Five Minute Friday - Tree

Life has been pretty chaotic here, but I have been looking for to Fridays and writing for 5 minutes. The sentences are but a few but the words they are mine.

Feel free to join in. See more at: Lisa- Jo Baker

The topic this week is Tree.

With the warmth of the summer sun as I stand from the deck at the back of the house, I see this massive tree in the distance. It's leaves are full and strong, bright green shimmering in the sunlight.

As Autumn approaches, I stand watching the leaves turn that beautiful autumn gold, and slowly one by one as each day passes the leaves fall and the tree begins to loose that vibrancy of life.

By the time the cool of winter arrives, the tree is almost barren, yet somehow as I stand looking at this massive tree, though barren is striking in the winter light. It's imposing statute against the winter sky speaks as life and hope of the Spring to come.

Five Minute Friday - Truth

It's Friday night and I am loving being apart of this activity - Five minute Friday.

Perhaps it just self denial, a desire to hide my head in the sand. Or it' simply the  refusal to believe the truth, surely I am better than that, surely I am not like that. Somehow the falsehood that is created, creeps up and overwhelms one's sensibilities.

The image or picture of ourself that is created seems so real, yet is so false when one starts to peel away the layers. The saying goes that the truth shall set you free, perhaps life is less complicated, less contrived when we aim to live not with masks that hide our true selves

Five minute Friday - Grace

The last couple of weeks i have been looking forward to Friday nights and participating in Five minute Friday. The link has all the details if you want to join the fun!

This week's theme is Grace and here is my piece.

It has been a week in which grace has been abundantly supplied, even though underserved. In a week that goes by with so many different demands, our week was marked by an event that shakes one's life back in perspective.

I learnt as a child that grace is God's riches at Christ's expense. I relearnt it this week, as I came to know  and remember that in life it is not the things that matter, but that people do.

In that moment, the disagreements of the preceeding hours and days with my spouse fade into oblivion, i cannot even recall why they occurred. They are replaced with overwhelming love, with gentleness and concern.

Grace -  demonstrated to us by people around us, with offers to help in what ever way they could and for prayers on our behalf.

Grace - I saw it in action this week and am thankful that is in found in Christ.

Five Minute Friday - Together

The last couple of weeks i have been looking forward to Friday nights and participating in Five minute Friday

This week's theme is TOGETHER and here is my piece.

the year has not been kind to us, not kind in the way that one would like.
it has been marked with events that have been text- booked as high stress events in one's life. Events like moving house, losing a job, losing a loved one. Life has not been kind to us as ordinary people, I can clearly recount the stressful moments that have occurred; the sleepless nights, the worrying, the wondering, and the second guessing.

Looking back on it now, those events seem momentary, distant memories.

It was easy to feel alone, and misunderstood, but you were there every step of the way. Holding my hand, comforting me when I needed it, when I was filled with self doubt, you encouraged me.

As we stand on the other side of what seemed an unassailable precipice, we stand not as mere individuals, but together as a unit, together as a family under God. Together, we have gotten here.
And I am glad!

Five Minute Friday - Laundry

I recently found Lisa Jo Baker's - weekly challenge of writing on Fridays just for 5 minutes. I am finding this to be a great creativity boost.

This week's prompt is Laundry. So here I go!

There never seems enough time during the week to do the laundry. At least the pile in the laundry basket does seem to melt away to nothing, but then in a blink of an eye it is full again.

The last few days it has been hot, so hot that already bush fires have occurred and yet it is only spring.

With this weather, the washing only goes out into the sun for less than an hour and it's dried, I fear what summer will be like.

As I think about the piles of clothes already washed, a fragment of a childhood memory projects into my mind. I recall the days as a child when the washing was done with a washing board - is that what they were called? I see vividly my amah washing and scrubbing clothes on that old washboard in the garden, the effort required. I wonder if I would cope if I had to do that today.
