Networking

It's 3 months today since i left full time paid work, how quickly the time has flown.

Over the past few weeks  - i have been catching up with old contacts - sorry i should say "networking".

Just in case you're not aware - networking is the latest buzzword for me, at least that is what my outplacement consultant has said it should be. "You're not just catching up for coffee -  you're networking."

So networking i have been doing - over coffees and lunches - connecting with people to see if they know of any opportunities that might be available. There is the added bonus of actually getting to hear about people's lives.

So have you been networking lately? Who with? Maybe you want to network with me?

Linking up with Jess today on I blog on Tuesdays.

  3. What a great way to get away with coffee and catching up! I don't do much networking at all. I have been out of paid employment for just over 7 years. Apparently it needs to change though and I am now struggling to work out how I can earn some money, perhaps I should look into networking more?

    1. Rhianna - it is difficult to go back to work after a break, and so much effort is required to work out what to do.

One thing that has been helpful - which might be of use to you - is to list down all the things that you can do, and then go through and work out what you like to do - that might help inform what kind of work you might want to look for.

Networking has given me the opportunity to "announce" that i'm in the market for work. The people we know might know of jobs that are available and provides another lead for us to follow up.

  4. Do you know, I MUCH prefer socialising IRL to social media so I'd be happy to be doing the networking over many cups of coffee.

  8. It's hard right?! Networking is a great way to put it Steph. But if I'm honest most of the work I get is from who I know not WHAT I know! Em
